M. Matsumoto Store, Inc. began as a grocery store by the late Mamoru and Helen Matsumoto in 1951. Mamoru would go from one plantation camp to the next, selling his wares on a bicycle until he was able to afford a panel truck. ⁠

69 years later, Matsumoto Shave Ice is in the same spot in Haleiwa, managed by the 2nd and 3rd generation of the Matsumoto family. Matsumoto's serves shave ice to thousands of locals and tourists every year.⁠
