Did you know? In Mexico, it's common practice to give someone a nickname based on their physical characteristics as a sign of affection. Los Chaparros means “The Shorties," specifically someone that is short or stocky. Los Chaparros Mexican Restaurant was fondly named after co-owners Mario Barrón (5’4”) and Lisa Hokkyo (4’9”), and the logo represents the duo. 

Before opening Los Chaparros, Mario & Lisa discovered that many people thought Mexican food was unhealthy. So, they made it a point to use lighter cooking methods and offer healthier options, so their customers could eat Mexican food regularly without the guilt!

The restauarant was recently named Hawaii’s Best Mexican Restaurant 2019 by the Star Advertiser People’s Choice Awards and was a recipient of Honolulu Magazine's Hale 'Aina Award 2019 for Best Mexican.
